In a record, 28,000 people learn how to perform CPR at Saveetha University,
Chennai: In a Guinness record breaking event, a total of 28,050 people learnt to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on Friday.The two-day event 'Save-A-Life Movement' was conducted at Saveetha University in association with Times Foundation, a body initiated by the Times Group. Close to 60 educational institutions participated in the event which was conducted to create awareness regarding the use of CPR technique to save lives. Over 2,500 student volunteers, 200 staff and 100 instructors from the college worked round-the-clock to achieve this feat.Swapnil Dangarikar, adjudicator with Guinness World Records and N M Veeraiyan, chancellor of the university, inaugurated the event.

Volunteers had to conduct 60 chest compressions at the rate of 120/minute on a single mannequin, during the session. The team also set an additional world record by doing a relay without going on a break.Participants learnt the procedure on how to start with the heart, lungs and keep the brain of the patient alive. With such training, a regular bystander will be equipped to give preliminary first-aid to save someone's life."Every individual of the university along with partnered universities came together to create a social change," said T Gunasekaran, dean of the university.

11th graduation day of  Saveetha Engineering College was   held on 26th March 2016 at M.M Convention  Centre, Saveetha University  Campus, Poonamallee High Road , Chennai. 667 graduand’s received their degree certificates. The vice chairman of UGC Prof.Dr.H.Devaraj was the chief guest  and  Mr.S.Sankara Narayanan- Director of IBM was  the  guest of honour.

Dr.N.M.Veeraiyan, Founder President and Chancellor of Saveetha University  presided over the function, and in his presidential address he insisted the students to be grateful   to their parents, teachers, institution and country. He called upon the graduands  to dream big and  achieve big.  

Earlier, Dr. E.N.Ganesh, Principal, Saveetha Engineering College delivered the welcome address and presented the annual report highlighting the various achievement’s of the college in academics, co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

 Dr.H. Devaraj, the chief guest has highlighted that the  youth power of India has  great opportunity awaiting them   which is to be grabbed. He  has called upon the students to break the mental block in them, so that they can think and consider higher target and goals. Dr.H.Devaraj has also indicated the urgent need for research and development and also the need for closer university industry interaction. Further, Dr.H.Devaraj has said only engineering professionals can find solutions to the challenges faced in India such as power shortage, flooding, water shortage, environmental pollution, etc.

The guest of honour  Mr.Sankara Narayanan, Director–IBM,India has  pointed out the pace of technology changes and called upon the engineering and  management professionals to adapt the change so that they will survive and achieve better solution  for  today’s  challenges.

The graduate’s have taken up a pledge on graduation day and the  ceremony concluded  with vote of  thanks  proposed by Prof.A.Gandhi.

Around 881 students received their degrees at the 9th convocation of Saveetha University here on 18th march at M MConvention  Centre, Saveetha University  Campus, Poonamallee High Road,Chennai.Eight students received their PhD and 135 students received their Postgraduate degrees.

During the event Hon.P KamalaNathan,Deputy Minister of Education & Higher Learning, Goverment of Malaysia,Prof.Vijay K Varadan,University of Arkansas, USA, Dr.Thangarajan RajKumar, Professor and Head, Dept.of Molecular Oncology, Cancer Institute, Adyar,were conferred with the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa).The 9th convocation ceremony is presided by the Founder President and Chancellor of Saveetha University Dr. N M Veeraiyan.Vice-Chancellor Dr.R Raja Gopal,Registrar Dr.D Prabhavathy,University Director of Academics Dr.Deepak Nallaswamy, 
Director of SMC( Saveetha Medical College)Dr.Saveetha Rajesh,Director of SSE(Saveetha School of Engineering) Dr.Remya Deepak,Direcor of SCE(Saveetha College of Engineering) Dr.S.Rajesh,

The College of Nursing, Saveetha University  celebrated  International renal day at Government school , Thandalam with the theme of  “ Kidney disease and children ,Act early to prevent it”.. .
There was a presentation on act early to prevent renal diseases by.M.Rajeswari, Clinical Instructor, Saveetha College Of Nursing. The presentation comprised of definition, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, prevention  and treatment aspect of kidney diseases among children. Doubts were clarified regarding prevention of  Renal diseases in children. After the session feedback was collected from the Teachers.  The programe was started at with prayer song.  followed by a special speech by Sivalingam, Headmaster, Government school,Thandalam.   
Solomon, Saveetha College of Nursing welcome the gathering and Jasila Abraham, Clinical Instructor, Saveetha College Of Nursing delivered the vote of thanks.

Saveetha college of Nursing celebrated International women’s day with the theme of  “ Pledge for parity” at Nalli arangam. The programme was started with Tamizh thai vazhthu.  At 9.40 am the dignitaries  on the dias lighten the kuthuvilaku .
The presidential address was given by Dr.P.Mangalagowri, Principal,SCON with the focus on theme of the day. Then the chief guest Dr.Rita Rani Mandal, professor, Lady willington (IASE) delivered the inaugural address on gender equality, Pledge for parity and highlighted the importance of female empowerment.
Latha, sub-Inspector of police, Women police station, Avadi, given the eye opening speech regarding the  law protecting the women and shared her experience. Then it is followed by Nithya kumari, Inspector of police, Women police station, Avadi, shared her life and career experience and insisted on women education which is the basis for women empowerment.
Role play competition winners: Ishwarya, selvarani, suseela, Tinu jose (Ist  year Bsc Nursing)  and runner up - Divya selvam, Deepa, Mini shiny, Kalaivani (Bsc(N) III year).

Saveetha College of Nursing, observed First World Gynaecology Cancer day celebration on Cervical cancer Awareness
Chennai: Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing department of Saveetha College of Nursing, Saveetha University observed First World Gynaecology Cancer day celebration on Cervical cancer Awareness at OBG OPD of Saveetha Medical College Hospital.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof.S.Kala Barathi, HOD of OBG Nursing, around 70 to 75 women’s attended the programme. The concept of Cancer cervix was explained by Prof. S.Kala Barathi. Students of B.Sc(N)III year Illustrated the causes, signs and symptoms, diagnostic method of cancer cervix through Villupaattu. The programme was also highlighted by display of poster exhibition on various pictures related to signs, investigation and vaccine.
             This was followed by interactive session, the audience was very much receptive and they cleared their doubts. This programme was very encouraging and motivating where many were willing to undergo free screening which was organised today in OBG out patient department.
