Socio-Legal Audio-Visual festival, FRAMES -2016,

Saveetha School of Law organized a two day Socio-Legal Audio-Visual festival, FRAMES 

2016, the first of its kind in any law schools in India, on 18th and 19th February, 2016. The 

purpose of FRAMES was to encourage the students to have an insight into the emerging socio-legal issues by dispelling misconceptions, myths and prejudices surrounding social issues and 

empower them to have broader perspectives through the use of audio-visual medium. It also 

provided a platform to showcase the students’ talents in photography, documentary and short-

film making on such issues. Five broad themes were chosen this year for FRAMES 2016 namely Marginalized sections of the society, Inequality, Disability, Human Rights and Day-to-day social FRAMES 2016 included short-film and Documentary Competition, Photography Contest, Drawing, Face Painting and Junk Art Competition and Exhibition for Students.  The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. R. Anita Rao, Director, Saveetha School of Law on 18th February, 2016 and she officially declared open the photography, painting and junk art exhibition at Saveetha School of Law. Eight short films and two documentaries directed by our students on issues like transgender, alcoholism, women empowerment, illiteracy, importance of agriculture, Right to Education to name a few were screened and were reviewed by other students. The students opined that the documentaries and short films have helped them understand better, the day to day issues of the society by enabling them to connect law with grey areas so as to address The valedictory function was held on Friday, 19th February, 2016 in M.M. Convention. Mr. Nanjil Vijayan, Vijay TV actor was the Chief Guest and Mr. Balaji, Cine Actor was the Guest of Honour. The students performed the finale performance of the Best Traditional Folk dance featuring various Tamil folk dances. Awards for the Best Short-Film, Best Documentary, Winner of Photography, Junk Art, Painting competitions were distributed by the Chief Guests. Thus, FRAMES 2016 provided a forum for communication, interaction and discussion between students on various socio-legal issues.

‘RAJUVENATE PRAXIS’, 10th National conference of 'Accessing a world of New Challenges for the Clinical Nurse specialist'

Saveetha College of Nursing conducted a ‘RAJUVENATE PRAXIS’,10th National conference of 'Accessing a world of New Challenges for the Clinical Nurse specialist' at 

Saveetha Universy's Thandalam campus, Chennai.

Dr Aruna ,Vice principal, SCON delivered a welcome address. She welcomed the guest of honor and the gathering. Presidential address was given by the chancellor Dr.N.M. Veeraiyan, Saveetha 

University and he gave a encouraging speech and wishes for the upgrade of nursing profession. Dr.P.Mangalagowri unveiled the theme Rejuvenate Praxis: Accessing a world of New Challenges for the Clinical Nurse Specialist and briefed about the importance of nurse specialist in the current scenario. The felicitation address was given by Dr.Rajagopal, Vice chancellor Saveetha University and his speech was motivated the nurses to be a independent practitioner. Prof.Dr.Mrs.Ani Grace Kalaimathi, Registrar, TNNMC was the guest of honour and gave a inaugural address and she stressed about all nurse to be alert to become clinical nurse specialist in various areas to 

provide independent care to satisfy the needs of the patients. Prof.Kalabharathi.S delivered a vote of thanks. 

The first session topic :“Converge to Clinical Nurse Specialist: Metamorphose is the Challenge in Child Health Nursing.” The resource person for the session was Dr.A.Padmaja, Professor cum Vice Principal, SVIMS. Her speech opened the eyes to extend the care in nursing profession. The moderator of this session was Mrs.Mary Minolin, Associate Professor. 

The second session topic: “CNS; A New Paradigm in Mental Health Nursing as Essential Resources for Health Care System”. This session was dealt by Dr.K.N.Jayanthi, Lecturer, NIMHANS, Bangalore. She was focused on a new paradigm on evidence based practice and research recommendations to utilize these resources in health care system. The moderator of this session was Mrs.Sujithra, Asst.Prof, Saveetha College of Nursing.

The third session topic: “Stride to promote Nurse Specialist for Primary Care Services. The resource for the session was Dr.Karaline Karunagari, Prof in Rani Meyyammai, College of Nursing, Annamalai University. She emphasized on the opportunities to enact the role of clinical nurse specialist in primary health services. Dr.Sahbanathul Missiriya, Prof and HOD of Community Health Nursing was the moderator of the session.

The fourth session topic: “Lay bare on CNS:  A Journey to wake Up”. The speaker of the session was Dr.Maria Therese, Professor, Mother Theresa Post Graduate Research Institute of Health Sciences, Pondicherry. She briefed about the competency and specialty areas in Medical Surgical Nursing to become nurse specialist. The moderator of the session was Ms.Parimala.L, Asst.Prof and HOD of Nursing Foundation, Saveetha College of Nursing. 

Scientific Paper presentation and skill station were conducted simultaneously. Totally 5 skill station were there such as ET tube Intubation, Mechanism of labor, Neonatal IM injection, IUD insertion and Arm suturing. Totally there are 27 scientific papers. 

II Day: 

The first session topic: “Explore skilled Nurse Midwife: Articulation of competencies. The moderator of this session was Prof.Kalabharathi SCON introduced the speaker Dr.Alamelu Venkataraman, Director, Westfort Academy for higher Education, Kerala. Madam has stressed about the competency skill and scope of specialization in the midwifery area.

The second session topic: “Beseeching for Nurse Specialist: Meet the Demand of the Hospital. The presentation focused on the contribution towards the nurse specialist to meet the demand of the hospital by providing the care with low cost without compromising the quality. The moderator of the session was  Mrs.Thenmozhi, Asst.Prof, Saveetha College of Nursing.

The third session topic : “Accentuate specialization; Exhilarate Expedition towards Prospective Age in Nursing”. The resource person for the session was Mrs.Poongulazhli, Principal, College of Nursing, Madurai Medical College. Her presentation outlined the specialization for the betterment of quality outcome.  The moderator of the session was Mrs.G.Bhuveneshwari, Asst.Prof, Saveetha College of Nursing.

The fourth Session topic:  “Utilization of opportunities by articulating the role of Community Health Nurse as Nurse Specialist”. Madam gave a detailed speech about the present obatacles and insisted to face the challenges in the community to become nurse specialist in Community Health Nursing

The total number of delegates attended was 525. Out of 525, 52 were faculty, 33 PG students, 12 UG students and remaining 438 were staff nurses who came from 41 various institutions of both college and hospital. 

Valedictory Session was started with welcome address by Mrs.Mahalakshmi.T, Associate Professor, Saveetha College of Nursing. Presidential address was given by Dr.P.Mangala Gowri, Principal and Chairperson of the conference. The report of the conference was read by Dr.S.Aruna, Vice Principal and Organizing Secretary of the conference. Conference feedback was given by Mrs.Tamilselvi, Assistant Professor, Saveetha College of Nursing and she reported that the conference was well received by the delegates. Feedback was given by the observer from the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council Mrs.Girija, Professor. Mrs.Poognuzhali, Principal, College of Nursing, Madurai Medical College was the guest of honour and delivered the valedictory address. All delegates were appreciated with the distribution of certificates. Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms.Parimala.L, Assistant Professor, Saveetha College of Nursing.

The passing­out ceremony of the 3rd batch (2010­2016)of MBBS students of Saveetha Medical College was held on the Saveetha University's Thandalam campus on Wednesday.(10/02/2016)

The function commenced with the passing-out students marching, 89 students received their degree certificates for the occasion from the hands of  Vice- Chancellor Dr.R. Rajagopal and Medical College Director Dr.Saveetha Rajesh.  The function was titled ‘Passing out Ceremony 2016’of Saveetha Medical College. University Registrar Dr. Prabhavathy, delivered the presidential address. Dr.R Rajagopal Uni.Vice-Chancellor, said, values that encourage innovation, individuality and collective effort, and values that strike to promote integrity and respect  for diversity and human dignity. Notice the nation beyond yourself and put these values in to practice by serving the nation, he added.

while addressing the students, Saveetha Medical College Director Dr. Saveetha Rajesh urged them to stay up to date with the latest advancements in the field of health care. Chennai:Finally the South Zone Inter University Cricket Men Tournament came to end on 2 Feb
2016, hosted by SAVEETHA UNIVERSITY. Hundred teams were participated from
various south zone universities in the tournament and  four teams were qualified for semi-final after preliminary knockout matches. SRM University won against Krishna University, headed to finals .Mean while Jain University won the match against Madras University and confirmed final fixture against SRM University.
FINALS MATCH
SRM University won the toss and elected to bowl, Jain scored 226 runs in 42 over’s for the
loss of 10 wickets and Jain batsman Desmond scored 72 runs in 73 balls and Samarth scored
45 runs in 43 balls In reply SRM University scored 86 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 25
over.Jain won the tournament and captain of Jain University Akshay kooth received the
trophy from Dr.Ch Bala Nageswara Rao, Director,Saveetha school of Management.

Chennai: Saveetha Medical College and Hospital,Saveetha University,organized ‘ICAAICON-2015’-a four day, 49th National Conference of Indian College of Allergy, Asthma & Applied Immunologyat Saveetha University's, Thandalam campus.The conference was inaugurated by Dr.Martin Chapman.

The conference atracted about 300 national and international Allergy experts under one roof for discussion on prevalence, trends and latest advances in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.ICAAI National President K B Gupta presided over the fuction.ICAAI National Secretary A B Singh read the report.Organising co- Chairman Dr.Chithrawelcomed the gathering andOrganizing Secretary Dr.Major.Nagaraju proposed a vote of thanks.

Stating the increase of Allergies in Chennai, Prof. Major. Dr. K. Nagaraju, Organising Secretary said,

About 20-30% of India’s population suffers from at least one of the allergic diseases.“In the past years,

there has been an ~15-20% increase of allergy incidence in Chennai. House dust mites (~50%) is the leading allergen in Chennai followed by pollen (23%), insect (16%) and food (1-5%) allergens. Allergic rhinitis is prevalent in about 42% of people between 20 –40 years. Prevalence of coexisting allergic rhinitis & asthma is highest amongst children & young adults (5- 20 years) at 45% prevalence.”

Commenting on the allergy trend in India, Dr. A B Singh, Emeritus Scientist(Ex ) , Institute of Genomics

and Integrative Biology,  Delhi and  Secretary of Indian College of Allergy ,Asthma and Applied Immunology ,said “Top allergies observed in India are that of respiratory, skin, food and dust mites. 80% of allergy cases in India are hereditary. Dr. A B Singh also spoke of his observation on  pollen allergy trend - “Pollen allergens from trees, grasses,  flowers and weeds cause respiratory allergies in 20% of the India’s allergic population. The trend increases at the onset of spring and autumn.”  Dr Singh has identified important pollen allergens of the country as a result of more than 30years of experience in research. Allergies are an over-reaction of the immune system in the form of antibodies to exposed proteins which are not necessarily harmful. These antibodies cause an allergic reaction which cause symptoms in the nose, lungs, throat, sinuses, ears, lining of the stomach or on the skin. Some symptoms include incessant sneezing, runny nose (rhinitis), difficulty breathing, hives and dermatitis. Allergies if undiagnosed or ill-managed may culminate to persistent allergic rhinitis and severe asthma.
