Saveetha Dental college proudly hosted STAR Summit





Chennai:Saveetha Dental college proudly hosted the first ever of its kind ,Saveetha Transdiscplinary Annual Research (STAR) Summit that spanned over a period 12 days from 29 june – 11 july 2015.
Over 1160 research papers were presented by the undergraduate students in the form of posters and was judged by 110 judges and more than 200 peer judges from across different institutions and 125 awards were given across all specialties in basic medical sciences and dentistry .

The pinnacle of this summit was the valedictory function that was held on Saturday in which Dr.J Radhakrishnan IAS ,Secretary to Government of TamilNadu ,Health and Familwelfare was the chief guest and Dr.N.M.Veeraiyan ,Chancellor ,Saveetha university  presided over the function.Dr.Deepak Nallasawmy ,Director of academics and chairman of Scientific review board ,Saveetha University  welcomed the chief guest and urged the younger generation to look up to individuals like Dr.J.Radhakrishnan who is popular across all strata of society because of his dedication and commitment to serve humanity.

 DrN.M.Veeraiyan elaborated on that after several years of hardships and hurdles the institution can now proudly consider it to be a near Model dental college.Dr.J.Radhakrishnan congratulated the winners of the best research award and inspired and motivated the students to start dental practice in rural areas as the awareness and follow up of dental problems is very low in interior rural sectors. He urged the students to be grateful and be committed  to their parents as they have laid good foundation for their future. Dr.N.D.Jayakumar ,Dean Saveetha Dental college announced the best research awards and the students enjoyed proud moments as for many of them ,they were receiving the award from their role model ,Dr.J.Radhakrishnan who had inspired them and many of them from whom they had received prizes as children when he was collector in various parts of Tamilnadu.

 Dr.Pratibha Ramani ,Asst.Dean of Research,proposed the vote of thanks and thanked her team and emphasized that team work has been pivotal in the success of this summit . Synchronizing the teaching curriculum with research right from the undergraduate level enables the students of saveetha Dental college to have an edge over others in this competitive scenario with the STAR Summit being the stepping stone for achieving greater heights.

Chennai: Saveetha Transdisciplinary Annual Research Summit(Star Summit-2015)was inaugurated here on ( 29 th June)today by Dr.N M Veeraiyan,Chancellor,Saveetha University at Decennial hall,Saveetha Dental College .Sri Ramachandra University Dean of research Prof.Dr.S.P.Thyagarajan was the chief guest.Dr.N.M.Veeraiyan, Founder President and Chancellor of Saveetha University presided over the function.
The STAR summit spans over a period of 12 days from 29th June 2015 to 11th July 2015 where in over 1400 research projects of our undergraduate students will be showcased, among them 53 papers have been accepted to be published for the month of May.  STAR summit will have 4 days dedicated
exclusively for basic medical sciences, two days for preclinical research work and six days for clinical research. What other place would be more apt to display these projects than the library where the thinking caps go on our student’s brains. Our ever buzzing library will progress a step ahead and become a scholarly apiary for those 12 days.  The students’ work will be reviewed and appraised by other students, their peers from other colleges and also from eminent faculties in each fraternity. Gone are the days where
a research has to percolate through many barriers to reach their pedestal, here we are offering a priceless platform for our students to reach out and extend our arms to the scientific globe around us.

to empower our students to have all the required professional skills”

This academic deliberation spans over a period of 12 days and will comprise of research work across all disciplines of dentistry including basic medical sciences. Apart from providing a platform to present their research, STAR Summit also gives an opportunity for the students to hone their analytical skills, defend their work and appraise other works. Synchronizing the teaching curriculum with research right from the undergraduate level enables our students to have an edge over others in this competitive scenario with the STAR Summit being the stepping stone for achieving greater heights.Saveetha University Director of Academics,Dr. Deepak Nallasamy,welcomed the gathering

Chennai:  Saveetha School of Engineering students received 15 IET YP Chennai local network Awards.
Every year IET YP Chennai network is very gracious to provide awards to the IET members in order to appreciate the engineers for their academic performance, research and extracurricular activities.
 This year, Saveetha School of Engineering students got 15 awards under different categories. The Award ceremony was held on 22nd march 2015 at SRM University,  Vadapalani Campus. The Founder of meraenglish.com, Mr. Santhosh Karnanada, handed over the awards to the winners.

The work published in Cochrane is recognized as representing an international gold standard for high quality, trusted information. Moreover, the Cochrane stands out with its published systematic reviews with an esteemed impact factor of 5.940.
The Cochrane contributors are involved in gathering and summarizing the best evidence from research to help its audience and make informed choices about treatment. The mission of Cochrane is to provide accessible, credible information to support informed decision-making for improving global health.  Cochrane evidence provides a powerful tool to enhance the healthcare knowledge and decision making.
As access to health evidence increases, so do the risks of misinterpreting complex content; meanwhile the likelihood of any one person getting a complete and balanced picture decreases. The mission of Cochrane is to provide this complex information in the form of high quality systematic reviews which are updated in a timely basis by the contributors, to support informed decision-making and evidence based interventions which would result in improved global health.
Cochrane's contributors are affiliated to the organization through Cochrane groups: healthcare subject-related review groups, thematic networks, groups concerned with the methodology of systematic reviews, and regional centres. One of such group held in INDIA is Cochrane Oral Health Group. We feel proud to be the part of this group with our contribution towards the same.
The author team lead by Dr. Saurav Panda, Professor Sheeja Varghese, Professor Malaiappa Sankari, Professor N. D. Jayakumar and Dr. Surendar Ramamoorthi from Saveetha University, India, with the collaboration of Dr. Massimo Del Fabbro from Università degli Studi di Milano and his colleagues, Dr. Valentina Ceresoli, Dr. Caterina Ceci  and Dr. Silvio Taschieri from University of Milan IRCCS Galazzi Orthopaedic Institute, contributed a high quality gold standard  systematic review on “Autologous Platelet Concentrates in treatment of Periodontal Defects”.
